CAHILL WILL BE A SUCCESS

Former Everton loan star Landon Donovan has said that he is confident that the new arrival to MLS – Tim Cahill – can be a huge success in the United States. Everton recently agreed a deal to sell their star midfielder Tim Cahill to MLS club New York red Bulls for around £ 1 million. Tim Cahill has been extremely crucial in the success that Everton have achieved in the last eight seasons. He initially joined the club back in 2004 for a transfer fee of just £ 1.5 million from Millwall. Even though he is a midfielder, he is known for his goal scoring abilities, although he managed only three goals last season.

Despite this, Landon Donovan is extremely confident that he is a player to provide a new dimension of an attacking player within MLS. Landon Donovan knows Tim Cahill better than anyone else after having spent two seasons on loan at Everton. The former Arsenal great Thierry Henry also said that he is confident that Tim Cahill can prove to be a success at his club. Henry recently started the 3-2 win for the MLS all-star against Chelsea in a pre-season friendly match. He is excited to combine with Tim Cahill to great effect.

“I didn’t speak to Tim about this particularly. I would have preferred to have him in LA but it’s a great opportunity for him and fingers crossed everything works out for him. He always spoke very fondly of our league. Most players and their families enjoy the prospect of living in America. There are a lot of pluses to playing here, and now when the league has made the sort of financial commitments they have made to players it sweetens the pot even more,” Donovan said after it was announced that Tim Cahill would be moving to the MLS.

DONOVAN HAS INSTANT IMPACT

Everton manager David Moyes has praised Landon Donovan for the instant impact he had for Everton in the match against Aston Villa. Landon Donovan made his debut in the second spell at Everton. The Merseyside club signed the American International on a loan deal for about two months from MLS side LA Galaxy.

He was expected to play a part in the match against Aston Villa at Villa Park, but David Moyes elected to start with the American International, who was given the number nine shirt on his return to Goodison Park. Landon Donovan played his part in the match, as he was influential in Everton getting the equaliser back through Anichebe.

After the match, David Moyes was full of praise for the American, who is especially known for his dribbling skills and exceptional pace. It is exactly what Everton need at the moment given that their source of creativity – Mikel Arteta – has departed to Arsenal. Everton are thought to have paid LA Galaxy around £ 2 million for the loan deal of Landon Donovan, but David Moyes will be aware of the fact that it is money well spent and will also be looking to sign the American on a permanent deal. Other players who have come from MLS include Robbie Keane and Thierry Henry.

“Robbie Keane and Thierry Henry have come back to the Premier League from America and they need a bit of time to settle because of having a break since the end of the MLS. But Landon has come in and played three or four 90 minute games already on the bounce since he arrived and that says a lot,” David Moyes said after the match. Landon Donovan was not only offering Everton the quality that they badly need, but also the work rate as well according to David Moyes.
