DONOVAN MAKES INDOOR SOCCER DEBUT

Former United States international Landan Donovan made his debut forSan Diego Sockets in indoor soccer. Despite being a debut he made his mark as he was involved in the game-winning goal with the San Diego Sockers beating the Tacoma stars 6-4.

A pass from the right beat three defenders and the goalie, allowing a teammate net in the far post. The game had thousands of fans watching and cheering on, setting an attendance record for a decade. The victory is the eleventh straight win for the team, with six players scoring the six goals.

In the 1980s indoor games were more prominent and even affected the regular outdoor matches. Due to various interventions indoor games have continued and with the involvement of Donovan, it is expected to attract more audience.

Prior to the start of the match, thw arena was already buzzing in anticipation of Donovan’s debut, it was another veteran midfielder who opened the scoring on the night, as Brian Farber raced onto a header assist from Taylor Bond off a set-piece, toe- poking in the goal with his right foot at 7:42 for a 1-0 San Diego first quarter lead.

At the end of the night’s funfair the 36-year-old Donovan was feeling his age. His unfamiliarity with the indoor game was apparent. Eventually the soccer legend was not as influential as expected

Speaking to the media after the match Donovan said he got tired in the end, both physically and mentally. He said it is one thing to physically push through it, but mentally he got tired because there’s so much going on. He reiterated that he is not mentally fit because he hasn’t playedthis in a year.
