GALAXY KNOCKED OUT

LA Galaxy were recently knocked out of the MLS Cup play-offs after suffering a defeat in the second leg match against Real Salt Lake. This means that will not have any matches between now and the start of the new season. This will allow Landon Donovan to get some much needed rest in order to cure his ankle. The striker has been suffering from an issue with his ankle since September. He has revealed that he will be taking a break for up to a month in order to rest his ankle.

This may mean that Donovan may miss the matches for the US national team. He should be back in time for the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal matches against Club Tijuana. US national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann omitted from the upcoming matches against Scotland and Austria. Both these matches will be taking place in Europe, which would have meant more travelling for Donovan. There have been rumours that he had fallen out with Klinsmann, but it appears that they have a good working relationship.

Donovan missed one league match as a result of this injury. After being left out of the recent World Cup qualifiers, Klinsmann recalled him to the team for the final two. Donovan has also revealed that he is not thinking about the World Cup 2014 right now.

“That is a little bit of a blessing, and I’m probably going to need the full time to let it heal. My aim is to take at least the next four weeks and probably six weeks and let the ankle heal and then get myself ready. It’s healing, hopefully. We’ll see what happens. I have to speak with Jurgen and [see] if that’s something he wants me to be a part of,” said the striker, who has been on loan at various European clubs in the past.
